Fulbright Canada Research Chair in Constructing Democracy and the Nation State in Nineteenth-Century North America 

Department of History

The Fulbright Visiting Research Chair will study some aspect of the multi-faceted history through which popular sovereignty, nation states, and mass politics emerged in nineteenth-century North America. Calgary’s Department of History features several specialists in this area (Drs. Campbell, Colpitts, Spangler, Towers, and Whitfield). At the U of C, the Fulbright Scholar would have the tools to advance their own research agenda and opportunities to present their work to the academic community and the general public, to mentor graduate students, and to engage in scholarly dialogue across the Humanities and Social Sciences. 

Specializations: Seeking a North American specialist who works on 19th-century political history, broadly defined.
