Fulbright Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Issues, San Diego State University
The Research Chair will be a vital part of the American Indian Studies (AIS) department, working with faculty, staff, and students, on issues related to local and global Indigenous communities. AIS is located in the College of Arts and Letters, the largest and most diverse college at SDSU. San Diego County is home to 19 tribal communities, and SDSU is on Kumeyaay land. The AIS department, over 40 years old, provides connections between the SDSU community and the broader Native American community through collaborative scholarship, programming, and public events. The Research Chair will be welcomed into this vibrant environment and will be invited to give at least one public talk and guest lectures in AIS classes, as well as engage with SDSU’s Native Resource Center. While centering their own research agenda, the Research Chair will gain knowledge about California Indians, as well as the San Diego-Tijuana border region SDSU inhabits. The Research Chair will be provided with office space, access to the library, and other campus resources.
Specializations: West Coast Indigenous issues, from Mexico through Canada, including settler colonial studies; environmental and ecological studies; arts and culture; nation building; language preservation.
Applicants are encouraged to identify their primary and alternate choices on the application. Formal letters of invitation should not be sought; however, applicants are encouraged to contact the institution to discuss research interests.
