We are pleased to present our upcoming speaker series event set to take place on October 21 at 12:00 PM (EDT). The featured speaker is Dr. Jessica Dolan, Fulbright Canada alumni, environmental anthropologist, ethnobotanist, and Indigenous studies scholar. She is a grant writer for the Native American Food Sovereignty Alliance and an adjunct professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Guelph.Since 2007, she has been working with Indigenous communities on environmental restoration, protection, education projects, and the academy to promote and advance decolonizing and Indigenist research and teaching. Her current work combines archival and community-based research within Indigenous food sovereignty, cultural landscapes, ethnobiology, and conservation to produce a culturally-appropriate field guide to traditional food plants.

During this session, Dr. Jessica Dolan plans to share her Fulbright research on Haudenosaunee ethnobotany and Indigenous Food Landscapes. She will discuss why research on Indigenous traditional food systems, plant identification, and other food sovereignty skills has become even more timely and valuable for weathering the COVID-19 pandemic and resilient adaptation to future changes in the economy and environment. She will also discuss how Indigenist methodologies make a difference in shaping culturally appropriate research and deliverables that contribute to Indigenous sovereignty and wellbeing. A Q&A session will follow.

Fulbright Canada is grateful for its strong relationship with the University of Guelph. We appreciate Dr. Jessica Dolan taking the time to share her Fulbright research during her time as the Fulbright Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Studies at Guelph University.
