Fulbright Canada will host the 2018-2019 cohort of Fulbright Arctic Scholars (FAI II) in Ottawa and Iqaluit for their inaugural meeting.
The Fulbright Arctic Initiative, sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs the U.S. State Department, with the support of Global Affairs Canada, is designed to use collaborative thinking and problem solving in order to understand and address the unique challenges and opportunities in the Arctic. The Initiative brings together scholars, professionals, and applied researchers from Canada, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Russia, Sweden, and the United States.
The work of the 2018-2019 Fulbright Arctic Initiative will center around two principal themes: ‘sustainable economies’ and ‘resilient communities.’
The inaugural meeting will afford participants the opportunity to meet, to share their research, to set the agenda for their collaborative work, and to meet with government officials, community groups, and a variety of experts.
The meeting will begin in Ottawa, where scholars will engage with government officials, community leaders, indigenous groups, and academics. The group will then travel to Iqaluit. As guests of an Arctic community, they will have the opportunity to engage with community members and form partnerships that will inform the work of the Initiative.
Fulbright Canada looks forward to welcoming these multidisciplinary and multinational scholars and support them in their quest to advance innovative new ideas for a sustainable and resilient Arctic future.
