1968 IN CANADA: A YEAR AND ITS LEGACIES

Fulbright Canada, The Center for the Study of Canada at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh, the Canadian Studies Program at Bridgewater State University, and the Canadian Museum of History are excited to announce a one-day scholarly colloquium, “1968 in Canada: A Year and Its Legacies.” The colloquium will celebrate the significance of the year 1968 in the history of Canada.

Political, social, cultural, and economic factors in 1968 all played a formative role in shaping present-day Canada. The emergence of the Parti Québécois, the launch of the Canadian Medicare system, the introduction of the Official Languages Bill, and the establishment of the Royal Commission on the Status of Women in Canada all contributed to the reality that life in Canada was changing and that a still-young nation was shaping its identity.

The colloquium will take place on September 27-28, 2018 at the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, Québec. Following the colloquium, selected essays will be compiled into a scholarly book.

We are pleased that several Fulbright Canada alumni will be in attendance:
