Our programs champion passionate and accomplished students, scholars, artists, teachers, and professionals of all backgrounds. Our global network aims to connect extraordinary researchers with policymakers, business leaders, community action groups, and governments to further mutual understanding between nations towards a more understanding world.

While its origins can be traced to Senator Fulbright and the U.S. government, today’s Fulbright Program is a complex public sector-private sector partnership active in more than 160 countries. The Fulbright Program is all about investing in our collective future, about knowledge transfer, and competition in the global marketplace. The success of the program is unquestionable, and its impact is profound. Among our alumni are 37 former heads of state or government, 60 Nobel Prize winners, and 86 Pulitzer Prize winners.

Fulbright Scholars

Canadian and American scholars and exceptional professionals are given the opportunity to take up traditional awards, visiting research chairs, and specialist awards at renowned institutions in both the United States and Canada.

Fulbright Canada awards offer a unique opportunity to explore a wide range of scholarly issues, including important contemporary issues that are relevant to Canada, to the United States, and to the relationship between the two countries.

Fulbright Arctic Initiative

The Fulbright Arctic Initiative brings together a network of scholars, professionals and applied researchers from the United States, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia and Sweden for a series of three seminar meetings and a Fulbright residential exchange experience.

Arctic scholars engage with multidisciplinary and multinational teams to conduct innovative research addressing the development of resilient communities, sustainable economies, and effective public policies of Arctic nations.

Fulbright Students

Fulbright Student Scholarships are awarded to outstanding Canadian and American graduate students and junior professionals who wish to enroll in a graduate studies program, continue their current course of study, or conduct research for a period of nine months as a visiting student in the host country. The program operates on the principle of reciprocal exchange and provides the opportunity for students to study and/or conduct research at institutions in the United States and Canada. Excellence in scholarship and community service are the hallmarks of the Fulbright Program. Fulbright Canada encourages and promotes bi-national collaborative research and thoughtful public debate on topics that reflect the broad range of contemporary issues relevant to Canada, the United States, and the relationship between the two countries.

Killam Fellowship

The Killam Fellowship program is specifically designed to support undergraduate exchange between and among Canadian and American undergraduate students.

The Killam Program is much more than a scholarship. It is a fellowship, in the truest sense of the word. The program provides resources for the fellows to travel to other regions in their host country. It includes a mandatory orientation session in Ottawa and a spring seminar in Washington. Upon their return to their home institution and home country, Killam Fellows graduate to become full members in an alumni network that allows for the continuation of this invaluable learning experience.
